Engineers in Action became a passion in 2008 after leading the Engineers Without Borders – Oklahoma East team to construct eco-latrines in the small community of Cotani, Cochabamba, Bolivia. There she realized the great importance of EIA both to the communities and to the project teams. During this trip, Rebecca found her husband, Joe Alvarez, who was an EIA Project Manager from Cochabamba. Joe is a fellow civil engineer and they now live in Tulsa with their 2 dogs.

Rebecca has served on the Board since 2008 and has been the Secretary, Treasurer, Vice-President, and President (2016). She also has assisted with the website, fundraisers, general administrative support, and with donor management. As of 2016, Rebecca has been to Bolivia 7 times and truly believes in EIA’s motto that “Clean Water Shouldn’t Be A Luxury”!
